The correct cleaning and maintenance programme will help ensure that your new floor retains its appearance and helps to extend the working life.

A typical cleaning programme consists of four key elements.

    1. Curing Time
A period of seven days should normally be allowed after application of the finish, before any chemical cleaning process is carried out. During this curing period, which will be dependent on site conditions and ambient temperatures, floors should be suction cleaned or lightly swept with a soft broom. Curing times do depend on the flooring system installed, so be sure to check relevant product data.

    2. Initial Clean
This will be carried out as soon as possible after the installation or, on new-build projects, as soon as possible to the hand-over date. The initial clean prepares the surface for immediate use and 'sets the standard' for all future maintenance.

    3. Periodic Maintenance
This will be necessary, from time to time, in order to restore the surface of the floor to its original state or to its condition and appearance following the initial clean.

    4. Routine Maintenance
The extent and frequency of all routine maintenance will depend on many factors - type and level of activity within the area, required level of hygiene or desired standard, the actual floor system to be cleaned, together with its overall size, texture and the type of soiling held on the surface.

The equipment used for the care and maintenance of your floor finish should commensurate with the area involved and can range from small suction cleaners and dust control mops to mechanical sweepers and rotary scrubbing machines.

There are many factors which need to be considered when planning your maintenance programme so be sure to liaise with the appropriate Flowcrete team member on your facilities requirements.
